Huong Truong — facilitator, strategist, and artist based in Melbourne's west. I bring 20+ years of cross-sector experience and a rare ability to get the best out of people in any room.
For over two decades I've worked across sectors that don't usually talk to each other: local government, parliament, unions, grassroots groups, election campaigns, and the arts. I know what drives people in each world, and I can move readily between them.
Whether I'm designing a workshop for 200, emceeing a bilingual event, helping an organisation find its strategy, or graphic recording a board meeting — the throughline is the same: I help people get clear, get aligned, and get moving.
I'm the first-born daughter of Vietnamese refugees, raised in Melbourne's west. Community, resourcefulness, and centring the agency of those most marginalised — these have shaped everything I do.
I speak Vietnamese and English fluently. I make things — with words, with pen, ink & watercolour, with rooms full of people.
Bespoke workshops on community organising, leadership development, power mapping, facilitation skills, public narrative, and consensus decision-making. In-person, online, or hybrid.
Co-authoring org strategies, theory of change, campaign design and evaluation. Done this for Democracy in Colour, the Green Institute, election campaigns, and grassroots collectives.
Confident emcee for events intimate or enormous — from a kitchen table of six to a public forum of thousands. Bilingual in English and Vietnamese. I'll say what is worth saying, for this moment and this gathering.
Live visual capture of meetings, workshops, and events. I translate what's said in the room into something people can see, share, and remember.
Watercolour (Australian florals), pen and ink illustration, and group or individual art sessions — all materials supplied. I'll come to you, or we can meet at one of my favourite cafes in the west.
Strategic advice on community engagement, volunteer systems, campaign structure, and organisational capacity — for nonprofits, advocacy orgs, and community groups at any stage.
Led a 5-person team of community educators and project officers, managing a $1.4M annual operational budget and $3.5M in capital works. Our Brimbank Gems recycling program won a Sustainability Victoria award and was replicated by councils across the country.
As Federal Candidate for Fraser, achieved the second highest swing in the country. Built a social media following larger than the incumbent MP's in under 12 months through consistent, community-driven content. Coordinated a coalition of 30+ community groups across VIC and NSW for local council elections.
Designed curriculum and delivered training for cohorts of young Australians on community organising, campaign strategy, and leadership — covering power mapping, facilitation skills, feedback culture, and decision-making. Delivered nationally across three program years.
Whether you need someone to lead a room, shape a strategy, or bring people together around a creative idea — tell me about what you're looking to build. I'd love to help you get there.
